Psychodynamic Counselling and Psychotherapy

Counselling aims to provide clients with an opportunity to live in a more resourceful, rewarding and satisfying way. We work with individuals, couples and groups of people, to set specific objectives and work to resolve problem states.

Psychotherapy counselling and psychotherapy involves listening and talking to clients with the aim of helping them resolve and understand their specific issues.

The majority of research shows that participation in counselling and psychotherapy leads to positive changes in the external characteristics and behaviours of clients. Clients rate themselves as less psychologically distressed after therapy than compared to before it.

Research has concluded that the more therapy sessions clients have the better they tend to get. The actual number of required sessions can vary significantly between conditions and individuals. In general, studies suggest that the number of sessions required is somewhere between ten and twenty.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is one of the most widely studied areas of psychotherapy and its evidence base is enormous. CBT shares the premise that psychological disorders and distresses are maintained by cognitive factors. The core premise of this approach is that behavioural problems and emotional distresses are supported by maladaptive thinking. These maladaptive thoughts include irrational and false beliefs, attitudes and schemas about the self, the future and the world.

Through CBT these maladaptive cognitions can be identified and changed to directly effect problematic behaviours and distresses. The results can change clients thoughts and feelings about their lives and environments.

Our clients become active participants in a problem solving process to hep challenge and test the validity of their limited beliefs and maladaptive cognitions.
